required to ride a motorcycle on one of MOTOURING’s tours?

choose an appropriate bike and route.

Euro 1,500 to 5,000 depending on the motorcycle. If your bike is stolen

a report and will send it to us, from the report we can determine the
fault and will charge accordingly.
5. Should I get any other insurance?
Adequate travel health/accident and trip cancellation insurance is
recommended, especially for our longer and more exotic tours.
expeditions. Trip cancellation insurance can be obtained through your
travel agent.
6. Will I have difficulty with the rules of the Road in Europe?
All European signage follow international conventions. All distances
are in kilometers. Most motorcycle riders have a short learning curve
picking up on the mostly diagrammatic symbols. Besides, figuring out the
rules is half the fun. You have to have some embarrassing stories to
tell the folks back home!
7. Will I get lost?
Our Tour guides "almost" never get lost ! If you are on your own,
probably ! But not for more than a couple of hours! MOTOTOURING will
provide you with all the maps, but figuring out what turns to take is
the other half of the fun. All European policeman can give you
directions that you will be able to understand. MOTOTOURING’s rule of last
resort is to flag down a taxi, and pay him to lead you to your
destination.
8. What are my estimated out of pocket expenses per day?
If you are riding on your own, you will have to pay for gas (petrol),
your lunch and dinner, (most European Hotels provide breakfast), your
room each night, and incidentals like Tolls on the Autostrada. In this
estimate we are leaving out impulse purchase, and other frivolous
expenditures! For the items above estimate about Euro 200.00 per day.
If you are on one of our tours the package normally includes: overnight
in good hotels in double room, dinner and breakfast, back up vehicle,
english speaking guide, map, the extras are beverages, lunches and fuel,
around 70/80 euro per day.
9. What happens if my motorcycle breaks down?
We have our cell phones on 24 hours of the day. Just call, and he
will access the situation and try to minimize any delays to your riding.
In the event that repairs can not be arranged quickly, MOTOTOURING will
provide you with an equivalent motorcycle as soon as possible.
10. What riding gear do I need to bring?
Many MOTOTOURING customers prefer to bring their own favorite jacket,
pants, boots, helmet and gloves. However, if you are not that attached
to your personnel gear, or don’t want the hassle of carrying all that
stuff in your luggage, MOTOTOURING has a comprehensive range of riding
gear to fit all tastes and sizes. We will be happy to outfit you apon
arrival to pick up your motorcycle. the costs are 5euro/day for the
jaket and 5 euro/day for the helmet
11. Do all the bikes have bags?
Most of the bikes are equipped with two locking, detachable pannier
bags. We can provide a top bag for the back carrier, and a detachable
tank bag with map holder can also added to all bikes. These are included
at no extra cost. You are welcome to bring your own tank bag. Remember
that magnetic bags will not work on the plastic tanked BMW’s, better to
bring bags with straps
2. Can MOTOTOURING store our excess luggage and belongings while we
are out riding?
Of course we can. It will be perfectly secure.
13. Can I ride two-up with my partner as a pillion?
Of course you can. MOTOTOURING has motorcycles suitable for two-up
pillion riding. We can probably even help you wire up your intercom on
most bikes.
14. How, and when can I return the bike to MOTOTOURING?
Just ride back to MOTOTOURING any time between 9.00am and 6.00pm
Monday through Friday. Please make sure the bike has some fuel in the
tank. We don’t like to send the next customer out on reserve, even
thought the first gas station is just around the corner! We can make
special arrangements for return outside these times.
15. Will I have a problem with the language barrier in Europe?
In this day and age most young Europeans learn English at School.
Many older Europeans also speak English if politely pressed. All Hotel
front desk staff, and most restaurant staff speak English. However, even
if you encounter no English speakers, all situations can invariably be
handled with improvised sign language, and a smile. Riding a motorcycle
in Europe, especially in Italy, automatically gives one a language of
our own. The language of motorcycle riders!

FAQ’s ON MOTORCYCLE TOURS
1. What is a MOTOTOURING motorcycle Tour?
A MOTOTOURING Motorcycle Tour is a pure holiday with a group
traveling on motorcycles. Each night we stay at fine hotels in the
region.
2. Will I have a roommate?
All rooms are booked double occupancy. This means that unless you
are bringing your spouse or favorite companion, MOTOTOURING will try to
book you into a room with someone. If for any reason we are unable to do
this, you will be charged for staying in a single room. If you desire,
you may pay the single occupancy supplement, which entitles you to your
own room. MOTOTOURING attempts to estabilish a profile on all riders in
order to have compatible matches. We usually manage to succeed in this
endeavor, but in the unlikely event you are not happy, we will make
other arrangements. If all else fails, we'll ask both parties involved
to pay the single occupancy rate and each will have a single room.
3. How long is a typical tour, and how far does one ride per day?
The average mileage is around 300 kms /day, with some days up to 450
kms. Maybe some days we will not ride at all. Each Tour is custom
designed to fit the desires of the riders. Usually a tour will be from
seven to ten days. However, this also varies depending apon the group.
We usually ride 2 to 3 hours in the morning, 3 hours in the afternoon,
but not necessarly, it always depend upon the places, itineraries,
things to see, restaurant to visit !!
4. What type of rider typicaly goes on a MOTOTOURING Tour?
Most of our customers are between 35 and 65 years old, and ride
touring or sports bikes. Most of them own more than one bike! Couples represent more than
half of the people touring with us and it is common to have female
riders operating their own motorcycle. Regardless of age, the most
important qualification is a healthy attitude and a desire to have fun
with others.
5. How many riders are on a typical tour, and how are the tours
staffed?
MOTOTORING tour sizes vary, most are between 6 and 25 people. Each
tour is staffed by a person who is capable of communicating in the local
language and is familiar with the culture and customs of the country.
For groups up to 10 people we usually have 1 guide/driver, and for
larger groups we have 1 guide on a motorcycle and a van driver.
6. Is there a support vehicle?
A support van accompanies all tours and is capable of transporting
at least one motorcycle to a place of safety in the event of mechanical
failure. It is equipped with tools and other basic supplies to
accommodate simple repairs.
7. Does MOTOTOURING carry my luggage?
The van will carry one piece of luggage per participant on a space
available basis. Riders are still encouraged to facilitate handling of
their own personal luggage.
8. Do you have to ride with group each day?
Every morning after breakfast, or evening before or during dinner,
we will have a group briefing in which we will talk about the next days
route, and in particular the location of the next nights Hotel. We give
Michelin maps to each participant on the tour. The tour guide will
describe his route and you are welcome to ride with him. However, this
is not mandatory and you are welcome to split up into smaller groups, or
ride alone for the day, planning your own route to the Hotel. All we ask
is that if you do not reach the Hotel by 6.00pm, you call the tour guide
and report your intentions.
9. How does MOTOTOURING handle meals?
All evening meals and breakfasts are provided as part of our
packages. Meals are sometimes open menu where you order what you want.
Sometimes they are buffets and family styled servings or a menu
selection of up to three dishes to satisfy your personal taste. On some
special days we provide a lunch. Meals include tip and tax but do not
include beverages.
10. What are the accommodations like?
When it comes to accommodations, everyone is pleasantly surprised by
the quality of our selections. Security, comfort, good service and
access to points of interest are the criteria used in selecting lodging.
If we are in a coastal town, you can count on a resort right on the
beach. Everything from old houses or castles to five star hotels. When off the
beaten tourist path, you may, on occasion, stay in more rustic
accommodations, but this is the exception rather than the rule.
11. Your bike or mine?
You do not have to rent a MOTOTOURING motorcycle to take a tour. It
is common practice for riders to ship bikes to and from the tour. Call
us for consultation on this.
12. What is not included on my tour?
If you ride your own bike you will need to get a Green card. The UCI,
an Italian Insurance Company connected with the ACI, the Italian
Automobile Club, can issue a Green Card policy valid for the EU
countries and other european countries. You can count on MOTOTOURING to
assist you in making these arrangements. Additionally, any form of
medical or trip insurance is not included. Tolls and fuels, border
crossing fees, meals or inclusions not mentioned in our itineraries,
alcoholic beverages, baggage handling and tips are not included.
13. Will I get more information after I book a tour?
A comprehensive information booklet is mailed to tour participants
30 - 45 days prior to tour departure.
14. When is the best time to make a reservation?
Right away. MOTOTOURING reserves lodging well in advance to get the
best available accommodations. Tours that include ferries, trains and
other logistics need advanced planning. Tours into Central and South
America often require our staff to visit consulates and embassies. Some
dates are very popular and are known to fill months in advance of the
tour; on the other hand some tours have been forced to cancel because
reservations arrived too late. Why hesitate? Once the tour has
sufficient numbers to go, MOTOTOURING can accept last minute additions
without difficulty ... that is, if the tour isn't sold out!
