Discovering the Balkans through three republics, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, often mentioned but virtually unknown. A fabulous horse route of one of the most southern mountain ranges of our continent, from the fabulous Dalmatian coast to the magical Mostar, the fascinating Dubrovnik the beautiful fjord of Kotor, which is also the southernmost of Europe. We discover the charm of intact cultures unknown to us, many of the towns that are protected as World Heritage by UNESCO to witness the richness of the places we're going to find out.
A trip around 1.500 km, all on asphalt and with good short-distance stages, with stops of entire days to the most beautiful natural parks in the Balkans.
Day 1 - Saturday - Meeting in Split
Day of meeting in Split and free visits, at 16.00 hrs briefing at the hotel, bike assignement and paperworks. Welcome dinner in Split.
Split is the second largest city in Croatia, with just over 200,000 inhabitants, and is the largest city on the Adriatic coast. Coupled with its strong history – it emerged from a settlement around a palace built by Roman emperor Diocletian, and the city was also important within Yugoslavia – this lively city sure is worth a visit, however brief. Seeing as it’s something of a transport hub – with great air, bus and ferry links (and even some train services).
Day 2 - Split - Skradin - 100 km
Disembarking at the port of Split scheduled at 7:00, breakfast and morning at leisure to visit the Diocletian's Palace. We will continue to the nearby town of Trogir to visit its historic center entirely protected by UNESCO, evening arrival in Skradin. Dinner and overnight.
Day 3 - Skradin - Visovac - Skradin - 50 km
Breakfast at hotel and full day excursion to the National Park of Krka. A boat going up the river Krka will take us at the first waterfall where for them then continue on foot. In the afternoon visit to the island of Visovac and to the Monastery carying the same name.
Day 4 - Skradin - Mostar - 210 km
Breakfast at hotel and departure for the crossing of the Dinaric Alps. Following the course of raging rivers we arrive in Bosnia and Herzegovina where we will reach the city of Mostar. Visit the city and the famous bridge over the Neretva.
Day 5 - Mostar - Zabljak - 220 km
Breakfast at hotel and departure for Zabljak only after visiting the springs of the River Buna. Entry in Montenegro and the customs formalities. Through suspension bridges to dizzying heights in the middle of the most breathtaking passages of climb Balkans on the Durmitor massif, one of the most beautiful national parks in the Balkans.
Day 6 - Zabljak - Kotor - 210 km
Breakfast and departure towards the south. Along the way stop at the Monastery of Ostrog, a real architectural jewel rock, another stop is a must to admire the fascinating island of Sveti Stefan and Budva. The road would follow today goes from Cetinie, the ancient capital of Montenegro, and then the National Park Lovcen where we will stop to admire the view from the Mausoleum of Njegos to finish the stage in Kotor. Sightseeing and ascent to the castle overlooking the fjord.
Day 7 - Kotor - Dubrovnik - 130 km
Breakfast at hotel and departure to the north. Along the fjord of the same name will be a must stop off at the tiny village of Perast You will return to Croatia to visit the splendid ancient Ragusa, entire afternoon dedicated to visiting the city.
Day 8 - Dubrovnik - Split - 280 km
Breakfast in the hotel and back to the north. Last day of travel but not devoid of attractions and interest! The Dalmatian coast gives us a new glimpse after every bend. Late afternoon arrival in Split for the farewell dinner and the last nigh of your tour.
Day 9 - Sunday - Day of departure from Split
Time at leasure until your flight back home.
